Working Together for All
Members of Essoungue-Dioula. (July, 2019)
Esonge is a non-profit organization that supports the ecological, economic, and social well-being of communities in southeastern Cameroon, by partnering directly with women's associations, which are called Essoungue in the Bangando language.
Essoungue is a traditional structure of mutual aid, which includes women of four ethnic communities living in southeastern Cameroon: Baka, Bakwélé, Bangando, and Mbomam.
Esonge-USA currently provides funding and administrative support for Essoungue-Dioula, as this association of dedicated women of the village of Dioula work together to advance the economic, environmental, health, and social development for their families and community.
Because Essoungue is a traditional structure, it is well within the reach of other villages in the region to legalize their own women's associations. Esonge-USA looks forward to extending funding and administrative support to other village-based Essoungue associations in the future.
